about

Released over thirty years ago, Solaris is highly regarded as a sleeper hit for the mythical Atari 2600; with time passing by, the cartridge developed by Doug Neubauer gained a cult following between fans of retro-gaming. Often quoted as the first adventure game, Solaris can be considered as a ‘one of a kind’ experience, only amplified by the limitations of the console. The deep space awaits every hero brave enough to free its citizens from the evil Zylons.

“The only feature it lacked was a proper soundtrack, probably due to memory restraints, so I tried my best to convey my impressions into music. I wrote three main pieces inspired by the strong visuals of the game, plus two electroacoustic experiments; ‘Opening’ and ‘Closure’ were originally field recordings, but resulted in these strange couple that fades in & out the LP. ‘Hyperwarp’, ‘Zylon’ & ‘Solaris’ were conceived on a modular system and later processed on Cockos Reaper.”
